The Northland Project explores what it means to live and work across rural “legal deserts” in the upper Midwest. Since 2017, Michele Statz and a team of researchers have collaborated with local community members, private and public interest attorneys, and state and tribal court judges to better understand barriers to accessing justice in rural and remote communities.

This project is generously funded by the National Science Foundation Law and Social Science Program (award #1729117).
